The Gambia Ratifies the Banjul Protocol on Marks

The Gambia deposited its Instrument of Ratification to the Banjul Protocol on Marks on 3 May 2021 and it took effect on 3 August 2021. This ratification allows for trademark applicants to designate The Gambia in any African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) trademark application under the Protocol.

Nigeria’s E-Naira: CBN Set to Launch Digital Currency in October

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclosed its plans to launch a digital currency – e-Naira; this is coming after the Central Bank of Nigeria banned financial institutions in the country from dealing in or facilitating transactions in cryptocurrencies. Unlike decentralised cryptocurrencies, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) are controlled by the issuing authorities.
